Abstract/Description

A National Forest Fire Communication System for staying informed and improved preparedness.

Ethiopia’s forests are vital ecosystems, sustaining communities, wildlife, and the planet's health. However, natural and human induced forest fires pose a constant threat, endangering lives, biodiversity, ecosystem services, and precious landscapes. The National Forest Fire Communication System is here to empower stakeholders at different administrative levels with timely and accurate information on forest fire occurrences to support timely intervention and preparedness. Key Benefits:

Real-time Updates: Receive daily alerts through email.
Interactive Map: Track seasonal distributions with an interactive map and identify hotspots.
Customized Alerts: Field, zonal, and regional officers are to receive only the information relevant.
Feedback: enables alert validation and description from field officers.

How it Works:

  1. Retrieve alerts: FIRMS alerts are automatically extracted for Ethiopia and disaggregated at district level.
  2. Sign Up: Field officers are assigned per district to receive localized alerts.
  3. Stay Connected: Communication of alert locations and confidence level sent via email.
  4. Be Empowered: Access real-time updates, resources, and provide feedback.
