Every year in August, Harare lives to the rhythm of the Zimbabwe International Book Fair (ZIBF), the largest of its kind in sub-Saharan Africa. ZIBF 1996, whose theme was 'Books for Business', attracted thousands of visitors eager for exchange of information. There were over 250 exhibitors from 40 countries, 23 of whom were from African states. CTA attended for the third time and displayed over 200 of its recent publications. Many visitors to the stand included regular readers of Spore, who were in search of agricultural information. Various meetings were held during the fair, including a seminar on national book policies organized by the African Publishers Network (APNET), a marketing course for African publishers and a forum on the theme 'Publishing in local languages'. en
