An in-country workshop on sorghum and millet in Mali was held in Bamako, Mali, by the West African Sorghum Improvement Programme (Mali) last October, jointly sponsored by the Institut d'economie rurale (IER) of Mali, USAID and the Ciba-Geigy Foundation. Participants discussed the present status of two most important cereal crops in Mali, and summarized the research results for on-farm testing and largescale extension. About 25 papers covering breeding, agronomy, pathology, entomology, crop utilization, and farmmg systems were presented and discussed. The workshop helped document research programmes on the two crops during the past ten years and identified research priorities for the future. Institut d'economie rurale PB 258 Bamako MALIen
