| dcterms.description | Robert Delleré, the chief editor of Spore since publication began, recently retired from his post at CTA. Field and administrative experience of agricultural development gained earlier in his career in Africa and the Caribbean instilled in Mr Delleré the virtue of adopting realistic and practical attitudes towards agriculture and rural development. Fortunately for Spore readers he developed a particular enthusiasm for the world of publishing when he joined CTA in 1984 which, coupled with his earlier field experience, led him to approach his work with zeal of an evangelist. Under Mr Delleré's leadership Spore has developed the lively character and high quality that our readers tell us they appreciate. This has contributed in no small way to the steady growth of interest in CTA and its work, which has been so important to the Centre in its formative years. Development is a process of change, and change usually engenders controversy. The heterogeneous team of men and women who work behind the scenes to produce Spore are by no means like-minded; but, in keeping with the reputation enjoyed by his Belgian compatriots, Mr Delleré has always shown an aptitude for finding the compromise when differences have arisen. The result has been that Spore has maintained a balance of interests and viewpoints which our readers have found to be stimulating. Mr Delleré will be succeeded as chief editor of Spore by Mr Dominique Hounkonnou, who has been a member of the editorial team since production began in 1985. | en |
