Annual report 2018: CGIAR Research Program on Roots, Tubers and Bananasen
Root, tuber and banana crops – cassava, potatoes, sweetpotatoes, yams, bananas, plantains, and tropical and Andean roots and tubers – are important staple crops providing around 15% or more of the calorie intake for the 763 million people in least developed countries. The CGIAR Research Program on Roots, Tubers and Bananas plays a leading role in catalyzing more than 300 research and development organizations to maximize the contribution of these crops to tackle hunger and malnutrition, reduce poverty and make smallholder farmers more resilient to climate change.en
