Abstract/Description

Paper by M.H. Arnold relating the findings and recommendations of the 1985 CGIAR Impact Study, the TAC Review of Priorities and Strategies of the same year, and discussions at ICW 1985. The studies had pointed to agroforestry, tree crops, aquatic resources, and soil and water management as significant research gaps in the CGIAR, and Arnold's paper discusses concerns some expressed over the affect of any expansion of CGIAR mandates on the focus and critical mass of expertise of its existing food crop research. Appropriate areas of decentralization and of systemwide coordination are also discussed.
