| dcterms.description | Michael Pickstock, Director of Media Projects, the company responsible for the English edition of Spore, is joint recipient of this year's Boerma Award. Given annually by FAO, the Boerma Award is presented 'For journalistic work which has helped to focus public attention on the important aspects of the world food problem and which has helped increase public support of measures leading to its solution.' Michael began his journalistic and development career in the BBC World Service, where for twelve years he was editor of 'The Farming World'. He has continued to contribute to the programme on a regular basis since leaving the BBC in 1976 to set up Media Projects and WREN, World Radio for Environment and Natural resources. WREN is now an acknowledged leader in providing consultancy and training services for rural broadcasting in ACP and Asian countries and also radio broadcast materials. Michael's role in Spore began in 1988 when Media Projects became responsible for the English edition. Christophe Naigeon, Director of Periscoop Multimedia, who is co-editor responsible for the French edition of our journal, received the Boerma Award in 1990. In the course of 30 years reporting on rural development, and advising on rural broadcasting, Michael has travelled extensively and has many friends in Africa and the Caribbean who will join us in congratulating him. | en |
