1992 CGIAR Annual Report

Report of the CGIAR covering the year 1992. It contains an introduction by CGIAR Executive Secretary Alexander von der Osten, and an overview of the eighteen CGIAR centers. Discussion of the events of 1992 concentrates on centers not addressed in 1991. The chapter notes a serious contraction in official development assistance and its consequences for international agricultural research, progress in establishing CIFOR, and measures to improve developing country representation in the CGIAR System. The report also discusses the Group's participation in the UNCED and its follow up, and in the International Conference on Nutrition sponsored by WHO and FAO.UNCED Secretary General Maurice Strong contributed a chapter on developments following the Rio Earth Summit, which is followed by an interview with Razali Ismail, Chairman of the UN Commission on Sustainable Development, on the significance of Agenda 21. The final chapter describes the Group's financial situation in 1992.
