| dcterms.description | Despite years of international effort, scientific advance and the dedication of man) men and women worldwide between 500 million and on' billion of the world's poorest inhabitants still lack the opportunity to meet their most basic need to be nourished on a sustainable basis Although the resources exist to feed the world's population, even into the next millenium, the opportunities do not. Globally the impetus to real locate the resources that wild end the chronic persistence of hunger is still lacking. The Hunger Project is an international, non-profit making organization committed to the ending of persistent hunger. Its objective is to create an environment in which opportunities are generated for chronically hungry people to feed themselves. The Hunger Project works through programmes of information, education and communication in 23 countries and enrols 6.2 million people worldwide. Its main Board of Directors is drawn from experts in many disciplines which range from agricultural research to international finance. The Project's long-term aim to inform and educate is expressed in a variety of publications and films. The Hunger Project issues a bi-monthly newsletter The world development forum; a newspaper A shift in the wind, specialized papers in both English and French on hunger-related topics such as sustainable development, the role of women, and the environment. The book Ending hunger and a video, Famine. and chronic, persistent hunger: a life and death distinction, seen by more than 320 million people worldwide, were also Hunger Project initiatives.
