Item Informing food system transformation with foresight: Partners adopting the use of foresight and metrics tools(Video, 2024-04) Mohan, Anisha; Anisimova, Evgeniya; Wolday, TsegaBetter-informed national policy choices – Governments and other decision makers in at least five countries contribute to and use foresight analysis to better reflect climate and other risks in policy dialogues and decision-making, including policies and investments designed to make food, land, and water systems more resilient, while recognizing synergies and trade-offs with other goals relating to nutrition, livelihoods, equity, and the environment. The videos are the result of three years established partnership with technical partners in three regions and six countries. The videos showcase on how the partnership established over the years have yielded the outcome expected. Together with these partners we have co-created and scaled our tools that are now widely used by the partners. In April 2024, the CGIAR Initiative on Foresight and the Institute for Integrated Development Studies (IIDS, Nepal) held the Foresight Partnership Forum and Training in Kathmandu, Nepal. The four-day event brought together key Initiative partners from across Asia, Africa, and Latin America to share insights on the multifaceted challenges affecting food, land, and water systems and strengthen local foresight and policy modeling capacity. During the event, we interviewed the Foresight Initiative partners from Argentina, Brazil, China, India, Indonesia, and South Africa and asked them to answer two questions: “Why did you join the Foresight Initiative and how is this partnership helping you in addressing the food systems issues in your countries?” and “How is the use of Foresight models helping you in advancing/informing strategies in your country?” *The letter of agreements with our partners can be available upon request. Achievements include training over 5,000 people on animal health, breed selection and sustainable farming techniques. The project inseminated 170 cows, improving pregnancy rates, and established 8 biosecurity demonstration farms. It also introduced sustainable feed practices, training 2,000 farmers on grass cultivation to prevent soil erosion. Local authorities co-invested in the project, ensuring its sustainability and long-term impact, which will continue to improve farmers' livelihoods and support regional development after the project's completion. Item Training video on the integration of the leguminous Mucuna cover crop in coffee and banana systems in central Africa.(Video, 2024-07-31) Ntamwira, Jules Bagula; Kitumaini Safari, Nancy; Blomme, Guy; Katera, Issa; Ocimati, WalterMucuna pruriens is a shade- and drought-tolerant, fast-growing nitrogen-fixing cover crop that has been shown to contribute to increased farm productivity, restoration of degraded lands through improving soil physical, chemical, and biological properties and carbon sequestration in banana and coffee fields in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo. Mucuna in banana and coffee systems can also reduce weed burden, improving the quality of life for women and children who provide most of the labor for weeding. This video captures success stories of using Mucuna as a cover crop on station and on farm in eastern DR Congo and will serve as a tool for transforming the mindset of farmers during scaling of the innovation. The video will also be regularly updated to capture new success stories and case studies.Item Empowering Women and Men Vegetable Farmers with Lersha Digital Platform - HER+ initiative, Ethiopia(Video, 2024-09) Nchanji, Eileen; Cosmas, Lutomia; Ketema, DessalegnCGIAR's Gender Equality initiative (HER+) work package Empower is working with Green agro solutions to integrate social innovations through the Lersha digital platorm for increased empowerment, resilience, income and food security. The water–energy–food–ecosystems (WEFE) nexus approach is a multi-disciplinary perspective to address complex resource and development challenges that underpin the Sustainable Development Goals. This approach offers a holistic and integrated framework for managing resources in the face of a pluri-dimensional crisis (climate, biodiversity, conflict, degradation etc.) which has profound impacts on water, energy, and food resources. The Women in Water Diplomacy Network, the Stockholm International Water Institute, the Environmental Law Institute, in collaboration with the Alliance of Bioversity International and CIAT, through the CGIAR Initiative on NEXUS Gains, co-convened an online experience-sharing workshop to highlight the efforts of researchers and academicians related to WEFE nexus issues, and shine light on the experiences of women diplomats in WEFE sectors. Held on July 31, 2024, the event also explored the dynamic context where water diplomacy, entrepreneurship, research, and innovation can merge to catalyze sustainable development. Speakers included Claudia Ringler, International Food Policy Research Institute; Farwa Aamer, Asia Society Policy Institute; Julienne Ndjiki (Ngo Yebga), Stockholm International Water Institute; Marlène Elias, Alliance of Bioversity International and CIAT; Nompumelelo Ntshalintshali-Motsa, Women in Water Diplomacy; Tumaini Mwamyalla, Nile Basin Initiative; Yodit Balcha, Alliance of Bioversity International and CIAT.Item A journey through adolescents' food environments in Vietnam: Introductory video(Video, 2024-08-16) Nguyen, Hong Duong; Even, Brice Gerard Jean Luc; Nabuuma, Deborah Sandra; Thai, Hang Thi MinhThis video provides a brief overview of our research on adolescents' food environments in Vietnam, offering a glimpse into the participatory videos created by the adolescents themselves. It has begun to dismantle social norms that hinder food access and consumption, paving the way for a more inclusive and healthier future. The training has successfully engaged men and private and public sector partners, emphasizing the importance of diverse food for all household members. This has been linked to farmers’ access to inclusive crop technologies in the mother-baby demonstrations, own fields, and community food resources. Item ICTforAg 2024: Virtual day session.
