Pro-poor risk reduction strategies for highly pathogenic avian influenza

Permanent URI for this collectionhttps://hdl.handle.net/10568/441

This DFID (United Kingdom Department for International Development)-funded study aims to aid decision-makers in developing pro-poor highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) control and prevention strategies that are not only cost-effective but will also enhance the livelihoods of the rural poor in developing countries.

The project will inform policy processes at the national and regional level, as well as build capacity for evidence-based formulation of pro-poor disease control strategies within the project countries.

The project is conducting research in countries where HPAI is endemic or high risk (such as Indonesia), in countries where there have been sporadic outbreaks of the disease (such as Ghana and Nigeria), and in countries where there have been no outbreaks but where scares have put the country’s veterinary services on red alert and affected consumer confidence in poultry products (Ethiopia and Kenya).
