DNA Barcode training at BecA-ILRI Hub 2014
    (Video, 2014-04-24) Schindel, D.
Dr David Schindel, CBOL, gives an overview of DNA Barcode of Wildlife Informatics Training Workshop held at Biosciences eastern and central Africa-International Livestock Research Institute (BecA-ILRI) Hub, in Kenya. The objective of the training is to provide lab training in the methods associated with the DNA barcoding pipeline. As a matter of fact, identification of trace evidence that can assist wildlife crime case by proving an offense has taken place, identifying an offender, linking an offender to both crime scene and items removed from a crime scene with that scene all form a critical part in compiling a case. Through these experiences, DNA barcoding in Kenya will ultimately help prosecute wildlife criminals.

(Video, 2017-06-23) International Livestock Research Institute
The Biosciences eastern and central Africa-International Livestock Research Institute (BecA-ILRI) Hub held a Data management and genotyping by sequencing (GBS) workshop from 5–16 June 2017 Nairobi, Kenya. The workshop was attended by twenty participants from national agricultural research systems (NARS) in nine African countries—Burundi, Ethiopia, Kenya, Madagascar, Nigeria, Rwanda, South Sudan and Uganda—and facilitated by trainers from Earlham Institute, UK; Fathom Labs, Kenya; and Ohio State University, USA as well as bioinformatics research associates from the BecA-ILRI Hub. In this 5-minute video, participants share their perspectives on the training and its applications to their research. The BecA-ILRI Hub—An African centre for excellence in agricultural biosciences
(Video, 2016-02-07) International Livestock Research Institute
Agriculture is widely recognized as a key driver of inclusive and sustainable economic growth in Africa. The need to harness biosciences-based innovations to capitalize on agriculture’s potential underpinned the vision of the African Union’s New Partnership for Africa’s Development (AU/NEPAD) initiative leading to the establishment of biosciences “centres for excellence” across the continent. One such centre is the Biosciences eastern and central Africa-International Livestock Research Institute (BecA-ILRI) Hub located in Nairobi, Kenya. A co-creation of AU/NEPAD and ILRI, this world class research platform facilitates research by African scientists and their international partners to solve some of Africa’s key agricultural challenges.

Les Cobays Domestiques—The BecA Hub Domestic Cavies Project
(Video, 2014-01-22) International Livestock Research Institute
Food security is a real challenge in most parts of Africa. This is particularly so when the quantity and quality of animal-source foods are concerned. All over Africa, dietary protein remains very low. Regular supply of small quantities of animal protein has been shown to be crucial for adequate physical and cognitive development of children.

The BecA-ILRI African Swine Fever Project
(Video, 2013-08-01) International Livestock Research Institute
African Swine Fever Epidemiology: A project partnership with AusAID, CSIRO, and the BecA-ILRI Hub. African Swine Fever (ASF) is a devastating emerging disease of pigs that is present in more than 20 countries in Africa. ASF is highly contagious and causes almost 100% mortality in pig herds. Although ASF does not cause infection in people, it impacts on the livelihoods of farmers, and others who trade pigs and pork, through loss of income and food. This project led by the BecA-ILRI Hub in collaboration with CSIRO and funded by AusAID enables an interdisciplinary team of scientists, working with national veterinary officers and ministry staff in Uganda and Kenya, to obtain an in-depth understanding of: - the prevalence and genetic diversity of the virus, - socio-economic impact, and- modes of transmission and spread.
