Seasonal supply patterns and pricing effeciency for milk in Kenya with particular reference to Kiambu District.en
This study deals with the analysis of pricing efficiency and seasonal supply patterns for milk in Kenya. The analysis is based on data from secondary sources and discussions with the sample farmers on ' the milk marketing problems.' The performances of the Kenya Cooperative Creameries (KCC) and the non-KCC markets have been examined. A considerable amount of milk is sold within the local market that increases the fluctuations of the KCC milk deliveries. The off seasonal movements have been investigated using seasonal index for milk delivered to ~1e KCC from Kiambu district (the sample district). A sample survey )laS been carried hundred farmers were selected randomely for detailed enquiry. A regression analysis has been carried out using supply of milk to the dairy society and production as dependent and independent variables respectively. A high proportion of the milk supply is determined by production of milk. The pricing efficiency of the KCG a~ ~mplications have been examined using the theoretical factors that are present in the efficient pricing system and it has been found to-be inefficient on various grounds. It has been shown that reviewing the KCC pricing policy by paying farmers in different areas differently will increase milk production.en
