Abstract/Description

Assessing and advancing gender equality in agrifood value chains: A toolkit for firms and voluntary sustainability systems.

This innovation aims to support agrifood companies, Voluntary Sustainability Systems (VSS), and other actors involved in downstream nodes or supportive functions of agrifood value chains and markets (e.g., in trade, research, policy and programming) to enhance gender equality and social inclusion in their value chains. The innovation is a toolkit designed to help: 1) understand the diversity of actors, with an emphasis on women, involved in upstream nodes of a given value chain, 2) assess the differentiated benefits, contributions, and barriers these diverse groups of women (and men) experience within their value chains, and 3) identify entry points for improved targeting and tailoring of value chain initiatives to improve the terms of participation for different groups of women and promote gender equality within agrifood value chains. This innovation is a collaborative effort between the CGIAR Initiatives on Gender Equality and Rethinking Food Markets.
