Since the influential Stern Review on the economics of climate change (Stern 2006), many have seen avoiding deforestation of tropical forests as arguably the fastest way and cheaper to mitigate climate change. The idea is that the richest countries - which were the largest emitters of greenhouse gases historically - to pay for avoiding deforestation in developing countries. Deforestation is basically a story of expanding land agricultural, while much of the degradation is related to the logging of medium and high value, and dry forests, the extraction of firewood. The challenge then is, first, change dynamics of agricultural growth in tropical countries, including the closure of the agricultural frontier apparently abundant open land where they have been busy and, to some extent also affect the behavior of agents in the sectors of forestry and energy.en
