Seventh meeting of the CGIAR Executive Council, September 13-14, 2004 : Summary Record of Proceedings

Summary of proceedings of the seventh meeting of the CGIAR Executive Council, held at IFAD, Rome, September 13-14, 2004. Francisco Reifschneider briefed ExCo on developments in the CGIAR, Per Pinstrup-Andersen reported on the Science Council, including the priorities and strategy exercise and the Science Council's assessment of Center and challenge program medium-term plans. Topics discussed at meeting: approval of the SSA challenge program for an 18 month inception phase, approval of the Generation challenge program beyond its inception phase, approval of the IRRI EPMR recommendation by the CGIAR with the addition of : expansion of IRRI activities in SSA with the proviso that it work with WARDA, and that IRRI should not abandon research on upland rice and work jointly with WARDA on this subject. Also discussed: the Working Group on Performance Measurement, governance matters and task forces on programmatic and structural organizational alignment, CGIAR nominee process, the CGIAR Charter, the role of ExCo committees, the CDC collective action retreat, CGIAR interaction with NARS, and ExCo rotation.
