Abstract/Description

Viruses are among the most significant biotic constraints in potato production. More than 50 different viruses have been reported infecting potatoes worldwide, but only few of them cause major losses globally (e.g., Potato leafroll virus (PLRV), Potato virus Y (PVY), and Potato virus X (PVX)). The ability to detect virus in the laboratory and in field environments with adequate sensitivity, reliability, speed, and reasonable cost, will improve potato early generation seed production. The LAMP method is a versatile cost-effective tool that brings the power of diagnostics right to the farmer fields, helping to rapidly diagnose viruses and mitigating their spread.
The video shows how LAMP test is performed in the field for detecting viruses affecting potato in a friendly way.
